Mr Elworthy will meet Minister
PA Wellington Federated Farmers’ president, Mr Peter Elworthy, will call on the French Agriculture Minister, Mr Guillaume, in Paris early next month as he travels through Europe at the Government’s expense. But the Minister of Overseas Trade and Marketing, Mr Moore, who has invited Mr Elworthy and the Seaman’s Union secretary, Mr Dave Morgan, to join his 17-day
trade visit to Europe, has left Wellington with no meeting planned in France. France is one of the strongest opponents to continued New Zealand butter access to Europe. Mr Elworthy has used his earlier contact with Mr Guillaume, a former leader of France’s National Farmers’ Union, to gain an appointment with the French Minister at a time when the two countries’ relations are in tatters because of the Rainbow Warrior dispute.
