Typhoid probe delayed
PA Auckland The search for a typhoid carrier who caused an outbreak of the disease earlier this year is being hampered by a South Auckland family that refuses to supply specimens. Members of the family may be fined up to $lOOO if taken to court under the Health Act and found
guilty, with a continuing fine of $5OO a day if they still refuse to supply the specimens, said South Auckland’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr Allan Cowan. He said collecting bowel samples for testing was a tricky and unpleasant task and the family might have a serious objection to taking the specimens.
