Study of bullets
Wellington reporter A retired Christchurch High Court Judge, Sir Clinton Roper, has been appointed to conduct an independent review of the police use of jacketed soft-point bullets. Sir Clinton is also the chairman of a ministerial committee of inquiry into violent offending. He has been given two terms of reference. He will examine the use, suitability and type of jacketed soft-point bullets on issue to the police, and whether any current policy on them should be
reconsidered. He will also examine such other matters arising out of the above. The Minister of Police, Mrs Hercus, said the inquiry would be conducted after that into violent offending but, to avoid unnecessary delay, individuals or groups who wanted to make submissions on the bullet inquiry could do so now. Submissions should be made by September 30, 1986, and addressed to: Soft-Point Bullet Inquiry, P.O. Box 35-016, Christchurch.
