Six on Education Board unopposed
Six of the eight members of the Canterbury Education Board whose terms of office expired this year have been reelected unopposed. Board members serve a four-year term. Elections are held for half the positions every two years. Members are elected by school committees. Those re-elected unopposed are: Mrs Ruth Cowell (Christchurch Ward 1), Mr Gerald Maister (Christchurch 2), Mrs Nedra Johnson (Christchurch 5), Messrs Richard
Harrington (South 2), Alan Hepburn (South Central 1) and David Waghom (North Central 1). Messrs Cyril Webber (West Ward 1) and Kelvin Dunbar (North Ward 1) did not seek re-election. Elections for the West Ward position will be held on July 16. Two nominations have been received. No nominations have been received for the North Ward position. The closing date for nominations has been extended to July 23.
