Radiant King atones for earlier bad luck at Nelson

PA Nelson The Blenheim pacer, Radiant King, which dragged a punctured tyre into seventh place on the first day, made no race of it over the concluding stages of the 0. L. Goldsmith Jewellery Pace, the first leg of the T.A.B. double on the second day of the Nelson Trotting Club’s meeting at Richmond yesterday. His trainer-driver, Max Miller, had the Honkin Andy four-year-old nicely placed midfield with a round to travel but improved him sharply at the 800 m mark and at the straight entrance was sitting ouside the pacemaking Amy Bock. Radiant King was in the lead soon afterward and never in danger of defeat, cruising to the line two lengths clear of the favourite, Lordick, which had enjoyed a perfect trail throughout. There was three-quar-ters of a length back to the third placegetter, Mark Seven, with Art Macfaber, Kanturk and Amy Bock next to finish. The second favourite, Embark, was slow early then met trouble with 1300 m to go, eliminating any chance he had. In posting 3min 6.6 s for the 2400 m, Radiant King bettered the existing track record by .2s. Hemihana, second on the first day, turned in a good performance to win the B. B. Jones Memorial

Pace, the second leg of the T.A.B. double. Near the tail of the field with 800 m to run, Hemihana was taken wide to make his run rounding the home turn. He was still a fair way from the lead 200 m out but came with a dashing late run to win by a length from Timely Rule, which had made a big run to go round the field 400 m out and looked to have the field covered half-way down the straight. An outsider, Friendly Lord, finished on strongly for third ahead of Miss Jenalda, Polita and Chummy.
