Tennis tourney
About 280 entries are expected in the Air New Zealand tie-breaker tennis tournament which will be held on the Elmwood club’s court this Saturday and Sunday. The competition, confined to doubles matches, proved popular last year. Contestants can enter as women’s, men’s, mixed or junior doubles combinations, and the tournament is aimed at providing incentives for all levels of ability. All doubles pairings will play for solid two-hour stints, fitting in about six games against a variety of opponents in that time. Each win recorded gives the players more chances in the draw for prizes. Chief among them is a trip for two to Auckland, a night at the Sheraton Hotel, and tickets to the Benson and Hedges Open’s semi-finals and finals.
