M.P.’s son hurt in crash

PA Palmerston North Mr Simon Cox, a son of the member of Parliament for Manawatu, Mr Michael Cox, is in a “quite comfortable” condition in Christchurch Hospital after being badly injured in a car accident on Friday. Mr Cox, aged 20, a commerce student at the University of Canterbury, suffered a broken arm and leg, and is likely to be in hospital for several months.

Two of his friends, also students at the University of Canterbury, died in the crash. They were Celia Frances Montgomerie,

aged 19, who was originally from Hamilton, and Stephen James Fuge, aged 18, of Whangarei.

Mrs Claire Lorraine Wilson, aged 44, of Tinwald, was reported to be in a satisfactory condition in Ashburton Hospital yesterday. She suffered chest and pelvic injuries. Her husband, Douglas Garth Wilson, aged 53, was killed when the utility he was driving and the students’ car collided. The students were travelling to a ball in Dunedin. Ms Susan Matthews, aged 19, was discharged from Ashburton Hospital at the week-end.
