Exception taken to headline
The Labour Department has taken exception to the front-page headline in “The Press” yesterday, “Christchurch fares y/orst in employment slumpl,” as misleading. Mr Bill Hunter, of the department’s head office in Wellington, said the quarterly employment surveys suggested employment had risen in Christchurch 2.8 per cent, or 3894 people, from February, 1985 to February, 1986. He said that while there had been a drop in the number of job vacancies over this period, this did not mean there had been an increase in unemployment. Mr Hunter had no argument with the report itself.
