Korean own goal ruled
NZPA-Reuter Mexico City A goal given by the referee to Sandro Altobelli, completing his hat trick in Italy’s 3-2 World Cup win over South Korea on Wednesday, was ruled yesterday as a Korean own goal.
An International Football Federation (F.1.F.A.) spokesman said that a review of videotapes
showed South Korea’s Cho Kwang-rae had turned the ball into his own net. "The referee’s list is not an official record of scorers, it merely sets out how many goals have been scored,” said the F.I.F.A. spokesman, Guido Tognoni. The ruling reduced Altobelli’s total of goals for the tournament to four.
