Special correspondent Hastings Some Bird continued her preparation for the Manawatu meeting tomorrow with a solid 800 m gallop at Hastings yesterday. The likelihood of a heavy track should enhance her chances. Time honours went to Padraic which sped over 800 m in 50.35, the last 600 m in 37.85. He is likely to be racing at the Hawke’s Bay meeting tomorrow week. Ragatan showed be has

taken no harm from his race at Awapuni last Saturday by running 600 m on his own in 37.95. He was only caught in the last few strides when third last week and could notch another win before long. Capone rounded off his preparation for the Manawatu meeting by running 600 m, with Bold Sika, in 38.15. A heavy track at Awapuni will be to Capone’s liking. Jack, an acceptor for the Rongotea Maiden at Awapuni, ran an easy 600 m in 39.15.
