Trainer-driver’s appeal fails

An appeal by the Massey trainer-driver, Peter Morgan, against the suspension of his horseman’s licence until the end of the current season, was disallowed at a hearing in Auckland on Wednesday. Morgan had the penalty imposed on him at a meeting at Alexandra Park where he drove the hot favourite, Patiki Chip, into seventh place in a race. His licence was suspended after the judicial panel found that he was guilty of incompetent

driving. The appeal, heard by Messrs Simon Lockhart (chairman), Doug Grantham and Ken Verran, was taken by way of rehearing. The appeal judges reheard the evidence and viewed a film of the race. The appeal was dismissed, with no order made regarding costs. Mr B. McClelland, of Christchurch, represented the Trotting Conference at the appeal, and Mr Mur-, ray Edwards appeared for Morgan.
