McGuire gains revenge
PA Auckland The Remuera golfer, Marnie McGuire, redeemed a little lost pride when she shot two rounds of even par 73 to win the national junior women's strokeplay title by three strokes from Jan Cooke at the Grange, Auckland, yesterday. Last Thursday, Cooke scored an impressive 5 and 3 win over McGuire to clinch the Stylemaster trophy, the symbol 'of women’s inter-pro-vincial golf supremacy, for Bay of Plenty-Thames Valley. McGuire and Sheree Higgens (Hamilton) with a par 73 in the opening round, could not carry her dynamic form through the afternoon, making a double bogey on the second and a bogey on the eighth to turn for home three strokes over the card. There was another bogey on the 11th and only one birdie in her round on the 17th to finish three over the card. Erica Maxwell, aged 19, did the best of the six Australians at the tournament, finishing the strokeplay in third
