Advertising leaflet

Sir,—A leaflet advertising the “Plain Truth” magazine was received rolled inside our copy of “The Press” today. Surely it is morally wrong for “The Press” to co-operate in this way in luring people into joining a nonChristian cult. The “Plain Truth” cleverly mixes truth with error in propagating the views of the founder of “The World Church of God,” Herbert Armstrong. Foundation Christian truths are denied, and many people are already in expensive, law-keep-ing bondage because the cult purports to be Christian. The errors in the teachings of Herbert Armstrong have been well summarised in a respected standard work called "The Kingdom of Cults,” by Professor Walter Martin. He describes Mr Armstrong’s teachings as “a gospel of confusion unparalleled in the history of American cultism.”—Yours, etc., JOHN CANHAM. April 21, 1986. [Our readers are at liberty to ignore the invitation to receive the magazine. Our acceptance of this, or other advertising, does not imply our endorsement of the product or the advertiser. We would be in a risky area of discrimination if we were to select advertisers according to our estimate of their moral or religious values. —Editor.]
