Japanese teaching gift
The teaching of Japanese at six Canterbury secondary schools received a boost this week with the presentation of sets of slides and cassettes depicting Japanese life and culture. Miss Ann Brokenshire, who teaches at Burnside High School, said the aids would be doubly
valuable because they could be used to teach social studies and geography as well as the Japanese language. The Japan Foundation was responsible for the gifts. Miss Brokenshire said there was a close relationship between the foundation and Japanese language teachers. Every year the founda-
tion sent a number of teachers to Japan to improve their knowledge of Japanese life and culture, she said. The five other Canterbury schools that received sets were Ellesmere College, Lincoln High School, Shirley Boys’ High School, St Margaret’s College, and Avonside Girls’ High School.
