The most notable price difference in the grocery “basket” for April is the drop in the price of eggs. In March, a dozen pack of No. 6 eggs cost $1.96, but this month the price has dropped to $1.49 in some supermarkets. The decrease is the result of a glut of eggs in Canterbury. Shoppers may be able to buy “specials” more cheaply in their area.

Steak mince has also increased, from $1.50 to $2. Coffee has also risen significantly in price, from $4.06 to $4.55. Other increases include bread, up 3c, and pet food, Ic.
