Ferrymead tearooms damaged by fire

The railway tearooms at Ferrymead Historic Park were damaged by fire last evening. The wooden tearooms suffered moderate damage, said a Fire Service spokesman. The director of the Ferrymead Trust, Mr D. R. Muir, said that it appeared the fire had started with an urn which had been left switched on. He said that he could

not estimate the cost of damage to the building. It was insured. The fire damaged a wall and part of the interior of the tearooms. Five engines were called to the scene about 9 p.m. and the fire was quickly brought under control. A Fire Service spokesman said that the fire was not regarded as suspicious. No exhibits were threatened.
