Tributes to Cr Lester
Councillors paid tribute to the late Cr Rex Lester, who died in a car accident earlier this month. The Mayor, Sir Hamish Hay, said Cr Lester was a first-class councillor who had served Christchurch well. Cr Lester was popular
and fair-minded and was respected by all his colleagues no matter what their political allegiance. “His untimely death is a serious loss to Christchurch local government,” said Sir Hamish. Cr Alex Clark said Cr Lester was highly re-
spected by other councillors, and his contribution to other bodies also was highly regarded. Cr Vicki Buck said Cr Lester’s sense of humour and compassion for other people would be remembered by all his colleagues.
