Hansen Park
Sir, — This park was set aside for recreational use and named after the late Dr Hansen, a past principal of Christchurch Technical College. He did much for the district, including the founding of Risingholm Community Centre. A park named after this man should uphold his aims and values in life. He would have wanted this land to be used by the local community, which he was so much a part of. The proposed development as a softball headquarters would remove much of the park from local use, as well as creating noise and traffic problems. The existing development of the park is in good taste and could be continued with further tree planting, with the playing fields available for local sports. — Yours, etc., J. M. RHODES. April 17, 1986.
Sir, — Having purchased a property in Opawa nine years ago, very close to Hansen Park, we will not tolerate our peaceful environment being destroyed by the planned invasion of the Softball Association. We have a child at school, and one at kindy, which is right next door to the park. How is all this extra traffic and noise going to help them and all the other children in the area? — Yours, etc.,
J. A BAKER. April 18, 1986.
