Basketball double to Canterbury
PA Wellington Converse Canterbury cleanly scalped a staid Altos Auckland 122-91 on Saturday night to complete a satisfying double in the Countrywide Basketball League.
The Clyde Huntley-led team beat the league champions, Exchequer Saints 101-90 the previous Saturday and thus have accounted for last year’s finalists in its opening two league fixtures. With a first round draw promising an unobstructed passage, should it maintain or improve its form, Canterbury can look forward. to dictating the competition pace for some time.
Canterbury play ‘a double header at New Plymouth and Palmerston North this coming weekend before building, with matches against Nelson (home) and Hawke’s Bay (away), to confrontations with Hamilton (away), North Shore and Ponsonby (home).

tion reins ; with Canterbury.
An impsrt-led 898 FM Hamilton beat Yamaha New Plymouth 73-70 on its home court on Saturday night, while the visiting North Shore team edged U-Eix Palmerston North in a livewire encounter.
In other action on Saturday, Saints established a new league winning margin in avenging its opening round loss, and Ponsonby rode a river of Ronnie ; Joyner threepointers tc a new league winning score.
Saints beat an understrength Bowater Nissan Nelson US-62 with Kenny McFadden 1 , and new recruit Ollie Johnson scoring a baaket more than the margii between them. Joyner slotted seven three-poirters in his 60point contribution to Ponsonby’s 138-107 swamping of Rheineik Hawke’s Bay, to eliminate rueful memories of a>shock two-point loss to NSw Plymouth in the opening round.
