Paleface Bubble may visit Chch
From G. K. YULE Michael Illsley is considering bringing Paleface Bubble to Christchurch next year following his success in the Consolation race at Brisbane on Saturday evening. It was appropriate that he won as he is a son of Paleface Adios, which was given a royal welcome on a night of pageantry when he paraded. The three-year-old, Smooth Falcon, was unable to time trial because of “minor soreness,” according to Vin Knight. Paleface Bubble just lasted to beat Armbro 'Gold, with Intricate back in third place, rating Imin 59.4 s for the 2100 m.
A jaded Borana finished towards the rear of his race. Derek Jones rushed him out and took the lead
with him, but he was beaten 500 m out, showing that he is many removes from his best. The Southland-bred three-year-old, Passform, created an Australian record for his age when he won in Imin 57.75. Trained by John Stariha, who purchased him from, the southern trainer, Jim Bons, he is by Pass from Care from Orane Queen.
Van Glen was another former New Zealand pacer to win. He got home by the barest of margins from the Jack Honanowned Bret Hanover horse, Pride of Lexington, by what the judge described as the “skin on the end of his nose.” The Jim O’Sullivan trained horse is by Vance Hanover from Tangle.
