Action may be taken against importer
Action could be taken against a Christchurch importer and wholesaler after about $200,000 worth of electrical goods were seized by customs
officers. Investigations by customs officers could result in action being brought against the firm for possible breaches of regulations and import licensing restrictions.
The enforcement section’s Assistant Collector of Customs (southern re-
gion), Mr Brian Ford, said three staff were working on the case and could complete their investigations within the next two to three weeks.
It was inappropriate to give details of the goods seized or the nature of the investigation because inquiries were still continuing, he said. The goods were seized
about four weeks ago and are being held in customs storage.
