Liner aground
The Italian cruise liner Achille Lauro ran aground close to where it was hijacked by Palestinian guerrillas last year, but was quickly refloated. Six tugboats retrieved the 23,629-ton ship, carrying 600 tourists, from sandbanks where it was stuck for 10 hours. Last October, hijackers held more than 400 passengers and crew hostage for more than 50 hours after seizing the liner and killed a crippled American tourist. — Alexandria
