Okarito Lagoon
Sir,—David Alexander excellently captured the mood of Okarito Lagoon in the coloured photograph printed in “The Press” last Friday. Unfortunately the caption seeks to perpetuate a misconception that the lagoon is a nesting place of the white heron. The heronry is the other side of a glacial moraine ridge north of Okarito Lagoon in the Waitangiroto River. During the nesting season the lagoon is one of a number of important feeding places for the white heron. — Yours, etc., PETER ALLAN. Hokitika, March 15, 1986.
