Veteran’s marathon
Derek Turnbull, of Invercargill, won the Koka-
tahi veteran scenic marathon last week-end in a time of 2hr 44 min. Turnbull won the event in 1983, setting a race record of 2:39. Lex Blair, of Christchurch, was second in 2:50. Stuart Watts, from Nelson, finished third, imin. back, while John Souter, of Timaru, who led for the first half of the race,
crossed the line fourth in 2:54.
Don Borrell, of Christchurch, won the over 50 section, while Jack Stuart triumphed in the over 60 class. Judy Hay won the women’s section in 3:32, while the last competitor home was Colin Hargreaves in 6:17. Thirty runners competed, running from Hotikika to Kokatahi.
