Walker improves times in U.S.
PA Auckland A much-improved John Walker has returned from several races in the United States where he ran 3min 59.2 s for the mile in San Diego at the wppk-pnd Walker left Auckland three weeks ago infected with an influenza virus, which had kept his training to a minimum since early in the New Year. “He ran four minutes for the mile in * Los Angeles last Friday night,
and 3:59.2s in San Diego on Sunday night, “so I’m improving all the time.” Walker had earlier run 7:56 for 3000 m and 2:20.8 for 1000 m, also good times for his state of fitness. ! Though he easily bettered New Zealand’s qualifying standard of 3:39 for 1500 m for the Edinburgh -Commonwealth Games several times in Europe last year, Walker has yet to run that fast in New Zealand this season.
