Appeal fails
PA Auckland An appeal by the connections of Etilanya against the horse’s relegation at Thames on January 7 has been dismissed by a sub-committee of the Auckland District Committee. Etilanya, first past the post in the Valley Toyota Goldfields Handicap, was later relegated to second for allegedly taking the line of runner-up, Otakiri Maid, in the straight. The sub-committee, which comprised Dr Calvin Ring (chairman), Messrs Glyn Jenkins, Ray Coles, Bob Lind and Alan Thompson, found on Tuesday that Etilanya moved out considerably and in doing so took the line of Otakiri Maid when not the required two lengths ahead. It was also found that Otakiri Maid had to be eased, losing momentum, which affected her chances. The appeal fee was ordered to be returned.
