Villa Maria wine wins 48 medals
PA Auckland The Auckland winemaker. Villa Maria, has won 48 medals at the New Zealand Easter Show — American Express wine competition. The judges gave Villa Maria and its sister company, Vidal Wines, more medals thay any other winemaker.
The companies, both in receivership, won two gold, 16 silver, and 30 bronze medals. Gold medals were awarded to Villa Maria’s 1985 Reserve Gewurztaminer, and Vidal’s 1985 Reserve Chardonnay. The companies managing director, Mr George Fishtonich, said the awards were a boost “It will impress on people that we are making quality wines. Despite being small we can easily compete with the big boys,” he said.
