Guinness bid
Guinness, the brewery and food group, has announced a renewed and increased bid in the take-over battle for Britain's largest whisky company, Distillers. The new £2.458 (SNZ6.SB) package came only hours after the Department of Trade and Industry said Guinness was dropping a previous £2.278 (SNZ6.OB) offer, accepted by Distillers in preference to a £2.38 (5NZ6.078) hostile bid from the Argyll supermarket group, but had been referred to the Monopolies and Merger Commission.
