Mrs Marguerite Roberts at the tiller of the yacht Chaplin. most two years later, just as World War. II was beginning. Mrs Roberts’ father, Commander Graham, was a Royal Naval reservist and decided to return immediately to England after selling the yacht to the Gillies family, of
Oamaru. Mrs Roberts always dreamed of coming , back to see the Chaplin and when she planned a world trip this year she wrote to the Gillies family, who invited her to go out in the yacht for a day. As well as the thrill of being at the tiller again, she was delighted, to see the yacht had been kept in perfect condition after almost 50 years.
