Porsche driver jailed

PA Auckland A man who wrote off a $lOO,OOO Porsche after driving it off the showroom floor and out through the (closed) glass doors has been jailed for 14 months. Henry Whorton Lewis, aged 20, a labourer, of Auckland, admitted unlawfully taking the Porsche, driving while

disqualified, failing to stop to ascertain injury after an accident and careless use of a motor-vehicle, on January 31. Counsel, Mr Loukas Nicola, said Lewis had been smoking cannabis and had taken a lot of pills before the incident. Judge Aubin sentenced him to nine months imprisonment for theft,

three months’ for driving while disqualified, and two months for failing to ; stop to ascertain injury after an accident. Lewis was disqualified from driving for 12 months from April 3, 1987, when his present disqualification ends.

On the careless use charge he was convicted and discharged.
