Commune members fail to appear
PA Masterton Warrants for the arrest of 10 former members of Andy Narain’s Greytown commune were issued after they failed to appear on 37 charges in the District Court at Masterton. Those charged were believed to be in Australia, the “Wairarapa TimesAge” said. David Ihimarea Edwards, aged 44, faces 27 charges involving fraud against the Social Welfare Department He was charged that on August 20 last year he used a Post Office Savings Bank agent withdrawal form on account of David James and Pauline Timu, for the sum of $442.
He faced 26 similar charges, involving a total qf $9884, using documents in the names of seven other persons: Nine other persons faced charges of omitting to inform the relevant authorities of their absence from New Zealand, and continuing to receive various benefits under the Social Welfare Act They are Mala Marie Kaukau,' Monica Grey, Sherily Katarina Poutawa, Harmony Alamein Katarina Uriarau, David James Timu, Rachel Rautea Spooner, Memory Mateori Jane Kaukau, Eru Tommy Kaukau, and Lexia Apikara Armitt
