Soviet prisoners
Sir,—The real purpose behind Father Greg Jordan’s dubious revelations about prisoner, treatment in.the Soviet Union (February 19) was revealed or exposed by his statements on the nuclear ban legislation.,,His diatribe .boils down to yet another .method of pressure. to' drop the legislation. Its aim is to: split the New Zealand peace movement so that it ceases to be a big factor in the Government’s resistance to this pressure. The ..Reagan Adminis•l tration is aware that its relays of tough cop/soft cop tactics are not /producing the?results it wants, expecially in view, of its failure . to come up with a creative response to the Gorbachev proposals. Father Jordan may not A have direct involvement with j/UnitedStates first-strike planning ''•. agencies, but his anti-Soviet misPsion here amounts to willing support for them. — Yours, etc., . R. TATE. February 19, r§p6.
