E.E.C. widens focus
Nine of the European Economic Community’s 12 nations have signed the “Single European Act,” a historic document that revises its founding 1957 Treaty of Rome. The act expands the. E.E.C.’s formal aims from mainly commercial and agricultural to new areas such as foreign policy, the environment, technology, and monetary and social affairs. Denmark, Italy and 1 Greece did not sign the agreement reached at the E.E.C.’s December summit meeting, pending the results of a Danish referendum on controversial aspects of the reforms on February 27.—Luxembourg.
