League tour shortened
NZPA-AAP Sydney New Zealand has succeeded in having its rugby league tour of Australia shortened this season after complaining of a compressed match schedule leading up to the third test in Brisbane in July. The Kiwis sought relief from the Australian Rugby League when confrontedl with a programme
of three matches in five days on the Queensland leg before the final test at Lang Park on Tuesday, July 29, which doubles as a World Cup game. After negotiations between the two leagues, the scheduled Toowoomba/ South West game at Toowoomba on July 23 has been axed, leaving only two Queensland Country matches at Kin-
garoy and Mackay. The rearranged itinerary is: July 9 v. Western Division, at Orange; July 13 v. Newcastle, at Newcastle; July 15 v. Riverina, at Wagga; July 19 second test at Sydney Cricket Ground; July 22 v. Wide Bay, at Kingaroy; July 25 v. North Queensland, at Mackay; July 29 third test, at Lang Park. The opening test of the series will be staged at Carlaw Park on July 6.
