Computers for Labour Dept
PA Wellington The Department of Labour has signed mafor contracts for computer equipment with the Amdahl International Corportion and Andas Business Systems, Ltd, the Secretary of labour, Mr Gavin Jackson, announced. The contracts are for the supply, installation and maintenance of hardware for the department’s own computer centre to be opened later this year. Mr Jackson said that the department was given Cabinet approval to set up its own computer facilities last year. Competitive tenders for equipment were
called in October. Amdahl has won the contract for the central processing unit, front-end processor and disc-storage equipment, Andas will supply Storage Tek tapes and printers and Telex peripheral equipment. The Department of Labour operates 13 electronic data processing systems, which include employment, immigration, industrial and corporate management systems. Some are used as a national network of terminals in district offices while others are used in head office only.
