Prices for breeding ewes steady
Well bred ewes with sound mouths had the best of a sale of breeding ewes at Addington market yesterday. Prices for the better-qual-ity ewes were generally on a par with last week’s rates. Most top-mouthed annual draft sheep sold between $lO and $l3 while poor quality ewes were $4 to $7.
A feature of the market was a line of five-year-old shorn Romneys from the Estate S. Hall, Peraki, which
sold at $13.30. Four-year-old Corriedales, late-shorn, reached $15.50. Sales of early-shorn Corriedales were made at $B.BO to $12.40 and five-year-old shorn Coopworths reached $lO. Poor ewes sold.at less than $5. A yarding of medium-qual-ity two-tooth ewes attracted little interest The pick of the Corriedale two-tooths sold at $17.60 to $18.20 and Romneys reached $l7. The yarding of adult sheep
was 5400, compared with 12,300 last week. A small yarding of 3600 store lambs — compared with 6900 last week — was in firm demand. Medium-type lambs were up to $1 a head dearer than last week’s rates but prices of heavy lambs remained stable. Most lambs sold between $ll and $l5. A line of bigframed shorn lambs made $l3 and woolly lambs made to $lB. Sales included: Adult sheep: T. E. Elliott (Cheviot), 133 five-year Corriedales at $9.40; N. A. (Culverden), 200 annual draft Halfbreds at $10.60; Mrs A. P. Bennett (Swannanoa), .92 twoshear Halfbreds at $11.40; B. W. Page (Okuku)), 200 fiveyear Corriedales at $8.80; Estate S. Hall (Peraki), 248 five-year-old Romneys at $13,30; R. G. Morris (Cheviot), 286 four-year Corriedales at $15.50, 95 fiveyear at $13.90; Kinloch Farm (Little River), 200 five-year Coop worths at $lO.
