Scots wha hae
Sir,—As a Scot, I object to the denigration of my race by K. L. Earle (“The Press,” February 17). I object even more strongly when Scots or Scotland are mentioned in the same breath as the current Labour Party. Throughout history, Scotland’s sons and daughters have made more contribution to the advancement of mankind (in relation to its population) than any other presentday country. What contribution has this current Labour Party made? In my opinion, absolutely zero. The Scots that I have known or read about have made their contribution through their own efforts — hard work and ingenuity. What is ingenious about a party whose only solution is tax them, tax them and, when that fails, tax them? As regards being canny — what can be more canny than a New Zealand Prime Minister taking in boarders?—Yours, etc., G. M. BURNS. February 17, 1986.
