P.N.G. diplomat named
PA Wellington The next Papua New Guinea High Commissioner to New Zealand will be Mr Lana Qaisa. The former High Commissioner, Sir Kwamala Kalo, returned to Papua New Guinea recently. The First Secretary at the High Commission, Mr Stephen Barampataz, said he did not know when Mr Oaisa would arrive in New Zealand. The new High Commissioner is believed to be a senior diplomat in the Papua New Guinea Foreign Affairs Department who has served in Indonesia and the United Kingdom.
Make-up man dies Ben Nye, a make-up artist who created movie monsters for “The Fly” and “Planet of the Apes,” has died. He was 79. Mr Nye worked as a commercial artist and became an apprentice make-up artist in 1935. He joined 20th Century-Fox in 1944, after first working with David Selznick on such films as “Rebecca” and “Gone with the Wind.” Nye worked on more than 500 movies, including “South Pacific,” “Cleopatra,” and “The Sound of Music.” He created “mellow yellow,” a make-up widely used in the industry to mask pimples and bruises, and pioneered make-up especially for black actors in the early 19605. After retiring from 20th Cen-tury-Fox in 1967, Nye started his own line of theatrical cosmetics.— Santa Monica.
