Initially, the new unit will be involved in the continuing development and implementation of an established project which is providing resource materials and systems for the training of Road Maintenance Workers and Supervisors. In the longer term, this unit will be instrumental in the establishment and maintenance of a wide range of training projects allied to the many engineering and technical functions of Local Authorities. Unit staff will work closely with Local Authority engineering and technical personnel in identifying training requirements and designing, developing, implementing and evaluating projects aimed at improving the performance of Local Government employees. Opportunity to work in other areas of the Board’s operations may arise from time to time. TECHNICAL SERVICES MANAGER The Technical Services Manager will be responsible to the Director for the management of the unit, including control of work planning, budget preparation and projects expenditure. Specific responsibilities include advising on, and management of, the processes necessary to identify and analyse training needs, and the design, development, implementation and evaluation of appropriate instructional media and strategies. Co-ordination of unit activities relative to the work of other Board staff and the creation of effective, on-going relationships with relevant organisations and individuals is essential. TRAINING ADVISERS (Development and Implementation) Three (3) positions are available for Training Advisers. Particular responsibilities will include: (a) Identification and analysis of training requirements; (b) Design and development of Instructional media and strategies; (c) Implementation, evaluation and maintenance of projects and programmes. The development of some specific technically oriented resource materials, and the presentation of workshops individually and as a group will be necessary. All positions within the unit will necessitate some travel throughout New Zealand. Salaries and conditions will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
