Peace and People’s Day
Sir,—Eric Bennett (February 17) suggests a day to celebrate New Zealand with a multi-cul-tural festival. On Sunday, Peace and People’s Day in Hagley Park did just that. What a wonderful day — so much warmth and so much good will, all the different cultural groups, adding their own flavour and interest — the brilliant rainbow, the peace dome circling the crowd. With so much going on, on stage and at all the stalls, one wished the day to become elastic. Congratulations to all the planners and workers. I sincerely hope that the demise of the P.E.P. schemes wilt not put a stop to such wonderful festivities — a tonic for the soul.—Yours, etc JILL WILCOX. February 17, 1986.
