Drop in value for crossbred

Most crossbred wools at the combined Invercargill and Timaru sale in Christchurch yesterday slipped in value when compared with the Napier sale on January 10, according to the official report. Fine crossbred, 33 and 34 micron, was in sellers’ favour, medium crossbred, 35 micron, barely steady, B style, 100 to 150 mm and longer strong crossbred, 37 micron, was fully down 3 per cent; B style, 100 to 125 mm and shorter down 2 per cent; B/C and C style in buyers’ favour and the second shear in buyers’ .favour. Compared with Napier, the crossbred cotts were down 2.5 to 5 per cent, the skirtings were par to minus 2.5 per cent, and the crossbred locks and second pieces were fully down 7.5 per cent. Compared with the last Christchurch sale, on December 20, the Merino fleece was nominally unchanged, the extra fine and fine Halfbred, 25 to 27 micron, was nominally in buyers’ favour and the medium Halfbred was nominally in sellers’ favour. The Wool Board gave substantial support on lots of better style and length, by bidding on 5725 bales or 33.2 per cent of the offering and having 2198 bales, 12.8 per cent, sold or passed to it. The combined market indicator for yesterday’s wool sales at Wellington and at Christchurch was 465 c clean and 346 c greasy.
