Keen on horses
The president of the Banks Peninsula Agricultural and Pastoral Show this year is Mrs Maureen Cottrell.
. She and her husband, Paul, farm a 485 hectare property, 12km south of Little River, where they have been for the past 12 years. They run 2300 Corriedale breeding ewes and 100 Angus and Hereford calves. Mrs Cottrell has a great
interest in horses. She has shown and competed in horse events for about 30 years — “for much longer than I care to remember.” She is also a member of the Christchurch Hunt.
Last year, she participated in a musical quadrille at the 1985 Ashburton and Christchurch shows.
Being president means having the overall responsbility for the organisation of the show. Mrs Cottrell considers the job a challenge and it has given her the opportunity to meet new people in the course of her work.
