Starling series surprises
PA Wellington Light winds may have caused a surprise win in the fifth race of the Starling national championships off Port Taranaki yesterday. Auckland’s Andrew Mikkelsen, in his yacht New World took the line honours with another Aucklander, Geoffrey Senior, in Touche, second. The third placegetter was
James Hamish Hay (Christchurch) in Danger. A lack of wind meant that the race scheduled for yesterday afternoon was called off. It will be run at 9.30 this morning with the final race of the championship being run immediately after, depending on conditions. In spite of yesterday’s turn-around result, Auckland’s Geoffrey Laws is still
leading the championships with two other Aucklanders, Michael O’Reilly second and Scott Adam third. Over-all placings: Geoffrey Laws (Tangaroa), 11.7 points, 1; Michael O’Reilly (Telstar), 16.7, 2; Scott Adam (Epic), 19.7, 3; Anthony Evans (Impression), 32.1, 4; Richard Kriletich (Shockwave), 39.7, 5; Mikkelsen 45, 6. All the yachtsmen are from Auckland.
