$2l00 paid for Romney
Invercargill PA A top price of $2lOO was paid for a Romney twotooth ewe at the New Zealand National Romney twotooth ewe sale in Gore on Wednesday. The sheep was bought by W. Donaldson and sold on account of A. G. and M. I. Beattie, of Kelso. “The sale was not bouyant and bidding was sluggish but prices were realistic considering the market,” said the chairman of the Southern Provinces Breeders’ Club, Mr W. D. Mithchell, after the sale. The sheep were well woolled and of good quality, but buyers were cautious. It was a reflection of the times, he said. The wool sale, which was held in conjunction with the Southern Provinces ram fair, attracted more than
300 buyers from all parts of New Zealand. Judging was by Mr C. Burrows, of Culverden. G. L. Robertson, of Gore, took first place with D. S. Giddings, of Fairlie, second and C. Robertson, of Lumsden, third. The average price of the sale was $475, with nine lots passed in and several withdrawn from a total of 58.
