Dispute at Clyde site

PA Dunedin An industrial dispute has stopped all private contract work on the Clyde dam three days after the workforce returned from holiday. It also comes in the middle of a 4000-metre concrete pour. The advocate for the combined unions on the Zut> lin Williamson contract, Mr Calvin Fisher, said the work stopped at 10.30 a.m. yesterday after the monthly meeting of site unions. Union members on ballot decided to stop for 24 hours pending negotiations with employers over safety on the site and an internal structural matter within the union in which a recommended change was made to employers by telephone. Mr Fisher said there would be another meeting today. The Ministry of Works side of the construction project is not involved.
