Smart run by Burridge
The former New Zealand cross country representative, Dave Burridge (University), was within 3.4 seconds of qualifying for the Edinburgh Commonwealth Games in a special 5000 m event held by the University Club at Queen Elizabeth II Park late last evening. Burridge completed the race in a personal best time of 13min 38.45, a performance which should impress the selectors of the national cross country team for the forthcomisf World Championships
in Switzerland. He is contemplating flying to Auckland to take part in another 5000 m event next Tuesday in an attempt to run a Commonwealth Games qualifying time. The Olympic Steeplechase finalist, Peter Renner (New Brighton), finished second in 13min 46.9 s in another. very good time, and Chris Tobin (South Canterbury), surprised by finishing a worthy third, in 13min 51.15.
