PA Tauranga The Tauranga police are on the lookout for a conman who sold advertising to a city firm and then cashed the cheque for payment with another firm.
Detective Sergeant Jim Dunseath of the Tauranga C. 1.8. said the man approached businesses in the city last month purporting to be selling advertising for a Christchurch firm, Racing Promotions.
The advertising was to be placed on plastic wallet cards distributed by the T.A.B.
He was paid a cheque for $lBO by one firm which agreed to advertise. The cheque was later cashed at another city business. The man was last seen in Whakatane where he stayed several nights at a hotel and left without paying. The conman, believed to be from Christchurch, already has a number of warrants out for his arrest on similar offences committed throughout the country.
He is described as a slim European, aged 40, who dresses conservatively.
