Sheep code ‘might need tightening’
PA Wellington The Minister of Agriculture, Mr Moyle, said yesterday that his Ministry’s code of practice for live sheep exports might need tightening before further shipments were made. He was responding to news that 433 ewes died on their way to Mexico in New Zealand’s first live sheep
shipment since the Government lifted its ban in September. The mortality rate of 2.5 per cent was higher than the 1 per cent predicted by Animal Enterprises, the Hamilton company which organised the shipment of 17,461 sheep. Further report, page 2
