Rebel players go on hooks

PA Melbourne Four players with the Australian rebel cricketers now touring South Africa have been suspended by the Victorian Cricket Association.

The four are Rodney Hogg, Michael Taylor, Graham Yallop and Rod McCurdy. The V.C.A. suspended them on Monday evening from playing in matches under V.C.A. control for the rest of this season, and for all of the 1986-87 season. The decision falls in line with the suspension of all the rebel cricketers by the Australian Cricket Board last September. The V.C.A. had been unable to follow the A.C.B. ruling, because of the V.C.A.’s bylaw 10, which allowed players suspended by the A.C.B. to remain eligible to play in V.C.A. controlled matches. But the V.C.A. executive director, Mr Ken Jacobs, said the bylaw had been withdrawn at Monday evening’s meeting.
