Dogs problem at park
Administrators of the Orton Bradley Park, near Diamond Harbour, are concerned about people ignoring a dog ban in the park.
Dogs owned by visitors have repeatedly been infecting sheep in the park with sheep measles, according to the park’s planning committee chairman, Mr D. M. Morris. Infected sheep have been rejected at freezing works.
The committee has applied for a licence which will give its manager more power to deal with dogs
running loose in the park. In spite of the provision of six dog kennels for visitors to leave their dogs in, and a sign saying dogs were not permitted, people were still taking dogs into the park, Mr Morris said. “People just ignore any instructions,” Mr Wilson said. “We have to rely on people to treat the park as their own.” Dogs wandering loose in the park have also been annoying visitors and cattle, according to Mr Wilson. A public notice advertise-
ment warning of the proposed tougher action against dogs will appear in “The Press” on Saturday. Mr Wilson said there had also been a problem with people taking plants from the park. Recently a patch of rhododendrons was planted, and three weeks later 10 of the plants were missing. People had also been taking cuttings from established plants, Mr Morris said. It was difficult to catch the culprits.
